Rievaulx Stool
Named after the ruins of Rievaulx Abbey in North Yorkshire, this piece draws on the honesty of medieval furniture, when every tool mark, every adze cut, carried the story of the maker’s hand. I chose the name because so much of that early work still speaks today through its texture, simple forms, built for use, but alive with the traces of craft.
The Rievaulx is a three-legged stool, hand-finished in a choice of striking colours or in a natural waxed finish. Each one celebrates imperfection as character, echoing the tradition of furniture that wears its making proudly.
