This small table is made from spalted maple and Italian walnut. Spalting is the dark figuring that forms in maple as it begins to break down, leaving natural lines and markings that make each piece of timber unique. The top is hand shaped and left textured, with gouge work around the edge. The Italian walnut legs are shaped with a drawknife and joined with traditional mortise and tenon joints. The table is roughly 370 × 450 × 200 mm in size and is finished by hand with a hard wax oil, drawing on the plain, functional furniture of the British Isles.
